Our Pedorthist
Ernie Tye is an experienced Pedorthist with over 10 years of experience and more than 33 years as a qualified orthopaedic shoemaker. Ernie started training with his father in 1980 a four year apprenticeship as an Orthopaedic Shoemaker.
Experience
Ernie has worked in Foot Protection Clinics throughout Queensland for the past 15 years working closely with the diabetic physicians and team, podiatrists, wound care nurses to treat Indigenous and non-indigenous peoples of the far North Queensland region.
Service
- Currently and for the past 15 years has monthly attended Townsville Rehabilitation Footwear Program for the Townsville Hospital
- 15 years attending the Foot Protection Program at the Rockhampton Community health where he provided services under the auspices of the Podiatry team
- 12 years as Pedorthist foot protection program in Cairns
- Many years attending the Bundaberg and Maryborough Hospital footwear programs as the visiting Pedorthic specialist
In all these locations, whilst many team members and head clinicians have come and gone, Ernie has been the constant and consistent practitioner for the local community to know and trust with their high risk foot problems. Ernie now focuses on Brisbane and the Townsville area.
Professional
- Ernie is currently the President of the Pedorthic Association in Australia and has held this position in the peak body for 9 years.
- Ernie’s seat on the Board of Management of the Pedorthic association spans 20 years
- Ernie has operated his own private practice in Brisbane for 25 years
- Ernie speaks regularly on the topic of Pedorthics and the possibilities to allied health professionals and patient groups
- Ernie speaks with authority on the subject of footwear, foot and ankle braces, orthotics, appliances and how the similar professions interact
- Ernie has sat on several government expert groups over the past ten years
- Ernie is married with four children
